Tips for UPCAT and other CETs

This is the season of CETs. We are done with our UPCAT exams but here are other tips from me that might help you guys to ace/pass the test.

1. Arrive in your testing site at maximum of 30 minutes before the given time.

2. Even though if they said to bring 2 well-sharpened Mongol #2 pencils, bring more than 2… at minimum bring 4 DULL-SHARPENED pencils. If your pencil is well-sharpened hen you’re going to shade then you would be wasting time shading instead of answering the next question already.

3. Follow the rules. [E.g. do not cheat, or if your proctor says “Walk faster” that actually means “Run for your lives”]

4. Do not bring your reviewer cause I’m telling you already that last minute review is pointless…

5. Do not bring your expensive gadgets. Okay dude, you’re going to take the exam that would hold your future. Do not bring your very expensive SLR and take pictures of yourself with a caption ” #UPCAT so hard”

6. If it is right-minus-wrong then if you really do not have any idea about the answer then it’s best to leave it blank. But try using the POE first (Power of Elimination)

7. It’s really helpful to enroll on CET review centers cause the coverage of the CETs are mostly from your 1st year to 3rd year. Plus, schools don’t really have the same lessons with each other.

8. Try to aim to perfect the Reading Comprehension and the Language Proficiency parts. That would really pull up your sinking grades in Math and Science.

9. For essay questions, go straight to the point and avoid using words that are very noseblooding. Plus, make sure your hand writing is legible enough. I know we all have our different font styles but the checker of the exam would not bother to check a hand writing like a doctor.

10. CHOCOLATE RUSH. Stock chocolate in your snacks. Eat chocolate per subjects and make sure that chocolate doesn’t melt easily or else that sweet chocolate might ruin your answer sheet.

Let’s talk about the Future

So, when we were younger and stuffs… “FUTURE” seemed to be something that we’re really excited about. The plans we have made to become a soldier and save the world or become a scientist and help cure cancer. [Or just live in PANDICORN (PANDa + uniCORN) world]

Now that I’m in my last year high school, just thinking about the “FUTURE” seems like a nightmare to me. I mean I had this “talk”thing with my parents about which college I would go to or what course I would take and I just wanted to scream.

ImageThing is I want to do a lot of things in my life. I want to go to London and be a fashion photographer there or work at in New York. Maybe, be a chef at Paris or Japan or help protect the country and be part of the Air force. Thing is there is this particular school and particular course I WOULD REALLY REALLY WANT TO APPLY BUT I CAN’T.

It’s like at the southern part of the country then the school is very expensive. But right now, that is the only thing I’m sure of but I won’t even apply cause I just don’t know why. (Sounds pretty cliche or something but it really is how I feel) So far, I applied at two colleges with courses that I am not sure if I even like.

Here’s my MASTER PLAN:

1. GO to whatever college my parents or whatever is possible.

2. Graduate and get a job which would suit and finance my lifestyle well.

4. Live at London. Be a photographer/writer.

5. Attend the High School Reunion (cause even though I hate a lot of them, I’ll admit it. I’ll miss those jerks.)

Sounds a pretty good plan? NOT.

What if everything fails? I have no effing idea how to deal with my life.

I can’t even answer this essay question, “Are there any significant experiences you have had, or accomplishments you have realized, that have helped define you as a person?”

*DON’T tell me when I was born to this earth. That is too mainstream… I need a quirky answer plus I really don’t know who I am still as a person.

Senior Year

I’ve got a lot of things that I look forward to this years. I think my senior year would be composed of : STRESS.FUN.STRESS.FUN.STRESS.

STRESS: Of course, we can’t avoid the upcoming CETs (College Entrance Test). I wish we could have one problem in senior year but (Insert Sofia Vergara’s voice) no they give us lots of problems. There’s also this thing that we need to pass called Thesis. Another one would be (cause our school is original and kind of weird) the senior help run the school so of course we have to check our every move and be examples to the lower years. Also there are these subjects called Physics and Calculus that’s sure going to kill our brains.

FUN:  Friends. Friends. and if possible teachers and the lower years. We are going to be these people for 10 months. So, like it or love to hate it, we really have to mingle with this people. You know the saying : If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. Well, do you really want to suffer your last year in high school sulking in the corner hating those people because you know they are full of themselves, or simply annoying? I know you don’t want to so to solve your problem stop sulking and try to mingle with people. Who knows maybe you’ll end up being close friends with the ones who annoy you.

If you’re asking on what happened to school today? Let’s say I’m too tired form standing and walking around for like how many times of the day plus the brown out to even recall the events that happened to day. I could only remember lots of M&Ms, Belgian Waffle, and a weird conversation I heard while I was at the rest room.

Or is it just I’m too annoyed with this day that I don’t know where to start.

You know you love me, xoxo,

School during the summer

A little school during the summer won’t hurt, right? Hell no.

At first, I really didn’t want to review for College Entrance Exams during the summer because it was too early. Plus, I’ve got short termed memory. (Well, it’s self proclaimed like how I diagnosed myself to have dyslexia or ADHD at some days.)

Then my friends are having fun during the summer at some other place and I’m going to study?! I didn’t want to be geeky or worse nerdy. (Nothing against nerds…it’s just….)

My dad suddenly enrolled me to this CETs review center and it doesn’t come cheap though. I actually prayed to God that he would at least provide me with even just 1 batch mate I know three times. (when I went to dinner then lunch and before I entered the review center. )He actually granted my wish and I thought I would only have one batch mate but we were actually 5 in the review center. Since I was absent the first day, I had to take a diagnostic test that lasted for four hours, no break. It was actually effing hard specially if you can’t concentrate because people decided to text you when you’re doing something while last night you were waiting for someone to reply to your GM and nobody did + your phone is on vibrate. Then, your stomach is growling because apparently that Japanese fast food you and your crush went to served small serving but of course you didn’t want to complain to your crush that first you don’t like Japanese food, ever since you went to this eat-all-you-can restaurant last year. And duh!!! It’s my effing opportunity to have lunch with my crush. (Yeah, fortunately my crush decided to Review for the summer and double plus we were in the same review center!!! WEEEEE)

I really need to stop with the long sentences, right?

The review was unbelievably fun . I got to meet other people from other schools and places. There was this guy I met and he actually was decent enough to walk me to school because I had to drop something to the principal’s office. (The review center was walking distance to the school.)

The teachers were incredibly interactive. My favorite would be the Language Proficiency teacher because, 1, she gave away this incredibly chewy Korean caramel milk bars. 2. She actually got to remember my name in just the first meeting.

On the last day, the review center gave us free shirts but I think I won’t wear that one. (Glad to be AHEAD... really?!) Then my friend, Sky decided to treat the bunch to a movie. We watched Scary Movie 5 which was R-16 but we practically dressed up as college students so they let us in. It was corny but that was the only movie all of us could agree about. (Iron Man 3: already watched that. Big Wedding: Uhm, we had guys. Do you really expect them to watch a cheesy romantic movie. Star Trek: Into the Darkness: not everyone is a fan of Sci-Fi movie)

We said our goodbyes to each other but promises to text or chat one another. (Not really good with promises.) Then I got to learn a lot of things like watching TV series could wait and stuffs like that. Plus, I get to see my crush during the summer.

[Hint: he is not in any picture below 😉 ]
